Srinivas is an Engineering Professional with 7 yrs of international experience in the power industry. He arrived in Canada in June 2019.
Srinivas learned of the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services through a flyer that he received at the Service Canada counter in the airport immigration zone.
He attended the Job Search Workshop modules at the Pickering Welcome Centre and was able to secure a job within 4 months of landing in Canada in the same industry matching his experience.
He states:
“I got a lot of information from the Welcome Centre – from settlement services to job search. It was recommended to me to attend the JSW workshop after a detailed assessment. The JSW program is well framed for newcomers to understand Canadian job market requirements and gain important insights about the hiring process in Canada. I thank Alan (JSW Facilitator) for explaining the requirements. I would also like to thank Sandra and Phoebe for always motivating newcomers and helping them stay positive during the initial days of struggle. The Welcome Centre is a one stop shop for newcomers for obtaining information about available programs.
I came to know about the TRIEC (Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council) Mentoring Partnership program and was matched with a mentor with 4 decades of experience in a similar industry. He helped me modify my resume and cover letter to match Canadian job market expectations. My mentor was proactive in suggesting suitable job openings and guided me in where to look for suitable job postings. He also helped me in doing certain certifications which are requirements in the Canadian job market. I would like to thank Kadia my TRIEC coach for finding me such a wonderful mentor.”
