In November, GM Canada announced a plan to invest $1-1.3B at the Oshawa Assembly Plant. GM is expected to hire 1,400 to 1,700 hourly workers.

GM Canada president Scott Bell told CBC News in a statement: “Subject to ratification of our 2020 agreement with Unifor, General Motors plans to bring pickup production back to the Oshawa assembly plant while making additional investments at the St. Catharines propulsion plant and Woodstock parts distribution centre,”
Construction to accommodate a new family of pickup trucks will begin immediately, including a new body shop and flexible assembly module. The plant will support strong customer demand for GM’s new pickup trucks.
According to a statement via President Scott Bell, pickups are GM’s largest and most important market segment across North America. Pickup sales help fund GM’s transition to an electric, autonomous and highly connected future.
