Minimum Wage & Living Wage

In Ontario

The Ford Government announced that “As part of the 2021 Fall Economic Statement, the Ontario government will introduce legislation that, if passed, would raise the general minimum wage from $14.35 to $15.00 per hour effective January 1, 2022.”  – netnewsledger.com

The minimum wage increase is a step in the right direction. The suggested Living Wage for the Durham Region – as reported by the Community Development Council of Durham (CDCD) in 2017 was $17/hour.

Ontario’s Living Wage Network indicates that the Living Wage for Durham in 2021 is $17.80.
